Une deuxième visite 17 années plus tard !

J’y étais venu une première fois le 16 septembre 2005 en matinée et j’avais acheté une paire de boucles d’oreilles à mon épouse. Voyez la description sur une des photos : HANDCRAFTED Labradorite Meyer’s Minerals sterling silver. Je ne me souviens plus du prix payé mais c’était autour de $50,00 il me semble bien ou plus. Nous y sommes retournés en couple cette fois le 2 août 2022 et mon épouse a tenté en vain de retrouver une paire semblable. La dame sur place nous disait de façon assez convaincante disons que ce type de boucles d’oreilles que mon épouse lui décrivait avec précision, n’avaient sûrement pas été achetées ici 17 années plus tôt et que ce qu’elle recherchait ne se trouvait pas dans ce commerce. Bon enfin, nous sommes sortis du commerce un peu déçus, surtout mon épouse, en prenant notre pilule. Je n’étais pas 100% certain que c’était le commerce où j’avais acheté la paire de boucles d’oreilles en question mais je savais à coup sûr que c’était dans cette région puisque je couchais à Deer Lake. J’ai heureusement retrouvé ces photos de 2005 que je vous propose ainsi qu’une du commerce extérieur prise le 2 août 2022. Les deux photos extérieures sont presque identiques ce qui ne laisse planer aucun doute que c’est bien ici que j’étais le 16 septembre 2005. Nous recommandons ce commerce si vous recherchez la qualité et l’authenticité et si votre budget n’est pas limité car il n’y a rien de donné.

Little hole in the wall doesn't look promising from the outside, when you open the door, it's small but very diverse in product. The lady who greeted us was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. She showed us the back where they cut and polished the stones, and she shared the geological stages on the different types of stones. All of the stones are from Newfoundland, and they create their own jewelry and ornaments. The rocks were beautiful and came with an explanational paper blurb. I found it very educational and would recommend it to anyone who wants a local souvenir.

Beautiful little hole in the wall of a rock and gem store. Slightly pricey, but you're getting access to labradorite from tribal lands that no one else can claim access to. Beautiful pieces for sale. Only minor issue is no debit or credit card machine at point of sale. Requires e-transfer, which is slightly wonky for a business model, but apparently they've been doing it for years. Staff in store were amazing, and happily allowed unscheduled quick tour of rock cutting area in back of store. Very interesting and amazing to see.

The minerals themselves were beautiful.

I docked a couple of stars for a few reasons:
1: a small dog growled and barked at my family and I the ENTIRE time we were inside the store which made us feel uneasy even though we were told it was friendly and wouldn’t hurt anyone (I am an avid animal lover and wouldn’t have any issue with a dog being in there, but the constant yapping and uncontrollable noise was inappropriate for a store setting)

2: the size of the store was quite small with limited diversity of product compared to other mineral retailer stores we have visited (in Ontario).
—> we followed the helpful signs from the highway; I think we were preparing to end up at a slightly larger store given the location and size of the building.

3: the prices were a bit higher than what I would be expecting/willing to pay, however, I understand this is a small business and they are doing their own collecting/polishing of products.

Overall, I would say, if you have other things to do in the area, pop in for a quick visit, but unless you’re specifically searching to buy something from there, it’s a bit off the beaten path and (I don’t mean to offend) a bit anticlimactic once you arrive- unless being harassed by a small dog gets you excited (haha!)

I do appreciate the hard work the owners put in to displaying their products and making sure customers are able to find their store via the blue signs and arrows. Those were very helpful.

Stunning collection of NL gem stones, u can even get a little tour of how the process works. Worth a stop to find beautiful stones.

Stumbled across this place in an industrial park. Didn't look like much, but how deceiving! Small showroom displays the beautiful work they do there. Also had a full tour of workshop as we learned about the types of rocks and minerals they work with and how they are cut and polished. The explanation of labradorite and how they bring out it's beauty is well worth any travel time!

The gemologist was so wonderful. He showed us the process and the stones from Labrador. My husband bought me a beautiful Labradorite necklace that I will treasure forever! Iridescent blue, green and purple. Thank you for the tour!
