Awesome experience. A must go to for visitors with the great knowledge of the guides. Geraldine was so sweet and knowledgeable, she has roots from her father and grandfather who were miners. The stories touched your heart and how they provided for their families was above and beyond. The miners, young boys, and horses working in cold, wet, barely lit as well as unreal conditions and long hours makes you appreciate our jobs now. God love them and their families. It’s an experience all should go see and I certainly was privileged to have myself. Thanks to all staff and Geraldine, that made my year.

This was one of the best things I did on my trip around Newfoundland. My family is from Bell Island and my great grandfathers worked in the mines, one worked in the #3 Mine as a driller so I of course had to take the tour on my visit.
Brian was my guide and he was so funny and knowledgeable and since both my great grandfathers are deceased, I haven’t heard many mine stories except what my nanny/poppy tell me, so it was amazing to hear more about the mines and be told actual stories and not just facts. Learning how people worked and see the conditions was amazing, just being down there was incredible.
As well as their museum upstairs was fascinating with all their artifacts and information, I learnt a lot, I was very impressed.
Staff were so friendly I got a coffee from their shop attached and that was very delicious. A sweater and runners would be good, it gets cold down there for the hour. Very well priced, I was so happy to learn more about my family history I will definitely be back for another visit/tour, this is a must stop!

Brian was a fantastic guide! The mine was closed for tours for the season, but Brian noticed 3 cars come in and convinced the manager to open it up to do a tour for us. He was so informative and gave personal stories about his grandfathers working in the mine. The coolest part was leaving the mining was occurring underneath the Atlantic Ocean! Highly recommend! Thank you Brian!

This place is a must-see. Geraldine, our tour guide, was incredible—her storytelling was captivating and filled with passion. She brought the history of the miners to life, making the experience truly memorable. At one point, she even turned off the lights and lit a candle, immersing us in the authentic atmosphere of the miners' experience. It was truly unforgettable.

The mine tour and the museum were very interesting to us. The mines feel like something from another world. The tour guide (Brian) is very interesting too, especially because the stories he tells are real life stories of his grandfathers who both actually worked in these mines for many years. It's crazy how vast the mines are and how far they extend under the ocean. We also bought Brian's book from the gift shop which is called my happy place. Definitely would recommend going to bell island for this.

Amazing stories about the history of the mine. They even have a little area in the museum dedicated to Harry Hibbs. The tour takes about 1 hour. Dress warm, it’s only 7 degrees down there. Also a good idea to wear running shoes.

We took the ferry over. It was worth the trip. Heather, our tour guide, was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Highly recommend esp if you love history. I found it fascinating. If you have time go afterwards to Grebe point. It's 5 min away.
