I was once...a looong! time ago, the pressman of the Mercury.
It was the winter of 60/61 and my main printing task was to run the weekly Mercury off using newsprint. With temperatures in the 20 below F range, and using a very old Multilith press, newsprint did not run very well with all the static electricity in the air!
When the pages started winding up in the upper ink rolls, I shut it down, went home to the Langis house on Yawkey and poured myself a generous rum and coke. Thus fortified, I went back to the printing shop and proceeded to run that week's Mercury using much pricier "bond" paper. I do miss those days, Des and Helen Smith and the rest of Marathon!!!!!
