Water and Mac Book. They don't mix.

My kid is accident prone and goes to McMaster. She put her less than a year old Mac Book in her backpack with her water bottle and the water bottle opened up. This flooded her backpack and Mac Book. Great. The Mac Book didn't power up, no lights, no beeps, just dead. We rushed it to Apple but they wanted way too much and wouldn't repair it (they'd replace it with a refurbished used unit). We went to PC Repair (turns out it is across from McMaster) and Mikey the owner took a look at it and said, the motherboard is fried, he can swap it out, keep the storage, hopefully the keyboard wasn't damaged but that might need replacing, and hoped that the screen wasn't damaged because THAT would cost even more than the motherboard! He couldn't diagnose the keyboard or screen until after he could get the motherboard to work and computer to start up (reasonable). He'd call us if either or both the keyboard and screen needed fixing. We paid for the motherboard repair because he needed to order the part and I said go ahead if it needs more.

He called 3 days later and said we got lucky. The new motherboard worked, the keyboard was damaged in two keys but repairable, and the screen he had water between the screen and cover and he had to "cook" in a special heater to dry it out for a day. The labour was $45 more because of the cooking and keyboard. He gave us the dead motherboard, told us to keep it for parts in case something else later, and said he moved all the storage over.

All in all, it was a great experience, lots of communications, . Definitely would recommend. Apple doesn't want to help, they just are for wanting wayyyyy too much of your money.

I am updating my previous review as the fault really lay with Apple rather than PC Repair. I was getting “out of memory” messages which meant my laptop was useless. Mikey figured out what was going on and provided me with tons of extra memory at a reasonable price, though as the chip is not available here and is difficult to put in it took time. Mikey has great engineering skills! I am very disappointed and fed up with Apple for taking advantage of loyal customers in this way. Getting a new chip and putting it in proved to be very challenging but Mikey managed to do it. He now has a partner to deal with customer relations who is very knowledgeable and good at explaining
technical things. I am just relieved that this ordeal is over.

Fast service. Did not know that when they repaired my broken macbook screen that they were replacing with a used screen, charged me for original market price of a new screen. Screen works, but the bottom of the screen is glitchy (as shown in pictures) (shows black too far up so I can't see which apps I have open and shows the bottom part of the bar before I've signed in.) Unfortunately will probably have to take it somewhere else when I have the money to get a new screen or purchase a new macbook.

Paid close to $300 upfront for a laptop repair. Upon pickup, was told repair was not possible after all, and that money would be refunded to credit card. Spent the next two weeks following up on the refund that never came. Many, many excuses were made. Ultimately, Visa needed to intervene in order to receive the refund. Very suspect and disappointing.

The employees are really nice and helpful as they helped me get an adapter part for a charger I desperately needed as a student to charge my school laptop. I checked in store to see if it was working and it did. However when I made this purchase I went home checked if it charged and it stopped working (5 minute span I live nearby). Went back to the shop and got traded a non original model for 37$ ish I was told to come back tomorrow for a partial refund since I paid 70$ for the original adapter but the non original one costed less so I was missing 33.90$. I went in the next day to be greeted by the owner I presume, telling me no refunds buy from somewhere else if you want to be able to refund. The owner was yelling at me which I understand I struggled to understand their accent so it must of been frustrating. However they were yelling at me it felt like while I was trying hard to understand again. From my understanding you should not get parts here though because if they magically decide not to work in 5minutes after they seemed to be working your screwed. I can’t help but feel scammed from this interaction and I encourage anyone to look elsewhere or triple check their hardware works if you do dare to buy from here. The employee that helped me were super helpful though but the business practices seem dodgy here.

Took my iPad here when my screen became unresponsive. Got a call 4 days later that it was software related and it would need to be reset. I went in to pick it up next day since the man over the phone kindly recommended I tried apple first (to see if it was under warranty) however once I got there the employee could not find my iPad. He looked around the shelving and messy disorganized stacks of electronics until he called someone else to come try to find it. I waited and looked around for about 15 minutes until I found it myself. This employee gave me a completely different diagnosis quoting me $280 for a hardware issue.

Long story short, I took it somewhere else and got the simple software issue fixed for $25.

I tell you what happened then you decide if you wanna take this risk and go here.

I took my laptop here to fix it in the middle of the semester. I kindly told him I really need this laptop as my work is dependent on it. He told me he doesn't make any promise when it will be ready, but he will call me and let me know what the issue is in max 2 days. After 3 days he didn't call me, so I called them they didn't pick it up. Day 4 I went there around 11am the store was closed. I called them multiple times. They didn't pick. On days 5 and 6, I went there at different times and still closed. After a week, he called me and said I let you know in another 2 days! The same thing happened again. After 3 weeks, he fixed my laptop for 400$, and I even gave a tip to the young guy working there. Since he at least answered my phone calls. When the old man gave my laptop back, he gave me the wrong laptop charger. And I knew that charger was not mine. I told him multiple times that this can create an issue even if it says the voltage and amperage are the same. He looked for my charger for about 10 min and said I could not find anything, and definitely, this is yours. He kept arguing about it and kept saying in a condescending way, "Do you understand." It was like if I say I don't, it is my fault that I can not understand, not his fault that he is giving me a fake charger.

After 1 month of using the laptop, my laptop screen starts flickering. First, I thought it was a software issue in OS linux. So I reinstalled my OS, and even I formatted my hard disk. Unfortunately the problem was the same. After another 2 weeks, the charger even stopped working. It was not charging the laptop anymore. I knew this was coming.

I took my laptop to another computer repair center, and they said the charger has damaged your laptop's hardware. I went back to this man who fixed my laptop and gave me the fake charger. I told him about it. This time, he looked for my charger and found it in 30 seconds. Either he was trying to steal my charger and give me a fake one or something else I don't know. He was totally in denial that the charger created this issue. And he said it is because of physical damage. Again, he kept saying, "Do you undestaaaaaand." Then he said,"Bring your laptop on Saturday ANYTIME. " I'll open the laptop to see what the issue is. I go there on Saturday two different times he is closed. I call them they don't pick.

Long story short, I went here because it was close. Right across the university. I wouldn't take the risk of leaving my laptop in such a mess and disorganized place if I could go back.

Not helpful but kind of made my situation worse. I had water damage and had my screen replaced here. once it was in, my phone detected that a non genuine part had been installed and my face id wasn’t working. i had kept it since i live out of the city but my phone got worse throughout the week. once it’s on, the screen clicks random things almost like it was hacked. after making my original visit on the 12th of june, i returned today on the 21st after sending an email. he didn’t help at all and laughed with some other person behind the cash while trying to get me to pay for another faulty screen replacement from him claiming i must have dropped it during the time i was away causing the face id not to work (even though it wasn’t working from since he installed the screen). he barely gave me time to fully explain my situation đŸ‘ŽđŸŸđŸ‘ŽđŸŸ
