I brought in my WD My Passport 2T external HDD - a few years old, old enough that - as my ONLY backup my wife & I were really worried about all our photo's and music (thanks Napster!). I used it successfully last year but when I plugged it in last week, I got a beep (recognition of device), and I could hear the drive spin up - but no drive letter. I took it to an IT guy who tried software recovery - no dice, he recommended 2 companies for data recovery, Data Lab has won my loyalty. I was hoping for a Level I fix, maybe Level II, never imagined it would be a Level III issue. Mike (Bless you) took it apart and sent me photos of the HDD, with the Read Head sitting in the middle of the top platter (instead of "Parked" like it's supposed to be). 1st diagnosis wasn't optimistic, but Mike & Coty went above & beyond for me with near perfect results (1 file partially corrupt - probably the one the Head fell on). So grateful to Mike & Cody for returning my memories to me, I promise I'll make a 2nd backup this time! and thanks for the tips about the differences between physical drives - platters (pro - lasts decades, con - subject to data loss if handled roughly), and solid state drives (pro - faster/ lighter, con - degrades over time due (10 years -ish) to electrical requirement.

I brought in very old floppy disks that I had important tracks on. The disks were not loading properly and would read fail. I knew it’d be a long shot in trying to find a way to recover the disks. I went online and was able to find DataLab. So I gave them a try, and though it wasn’t an easy process, they were able to recover both disk.
I appreciated their efforts and was pleased overall.

Nice people at the shop. I highly recommend.

I recently had my main hard drive stop working and found some reviews recommending Mike at Data Lab. I called him up and was given a few scenarios for what was wrong, along with the costs. Going to a data specialist, I was worried about costs but Mike told me about his No Data No Fee policy. My drive needed replacement parts so it took awhile to find them but Mike & Coty kept me updated with emails and texts. In the end, my drive had too many damaged parts to get any data so it didnt cost me anything. Really appreciated the communication and how up front costs were shared. If I run into issues again, I'll be coming back. Highly recommend Data Lab!

I just had the pleasure of having my brand new PC briefly serviced by Mike. I built this PC from memory Express and had started experiencing some issues while I was trying to fresh install Windows. I needed help seating a ram stick which was blocked by my GPU and a dual fan. I called Mike and explained the situation and that it was about ten to fifteen minutes worth of work max.

Mike offered to take a look at it for free if it was a simple fix. I took it in and he quickly helped me resolve my issue with his 28 years worth of experience in this field. He did not charge me but I valued his expertise so I tipped him.

I will defintely be going here for the remainder of my time living in Edmonton for any tech support, or future PC upgrades. Hopefully that is not for at least a couple years but I look forward to interacting with him again. Thank you Mike and Data Lab!

Excellent service and very friendly, recovered most of my data from an external hard disk that was damaged. I did not expect those results. Really appreciate the work they did, although I hope not to need data recovered again. If I do, I would go back to Data Lab.

I had the most incredible experience using Data Labs that I had to share as they went above and beyond to help me navigate my samsung phone because it did an upgrade that wouldn't allow me to put my password into it. Brought my iPhone in which had water damage and wouldn’t boot. Mike was able to repair it in a couple days and have it back to me fully functional. Retrieved all 4000 photos which I thought were lost forever. Amazing service!

I had an old laptop that was broken and I couldn't get my old pictures out of it.I searched around for someone who specializes in data recovery after one of the big stores said it'd be a small fortune with no guarantees if it'd even be possible. Thank goodness I found Datalab! Knowing how valuable these pictures are to me Mike took the time and did a great job recovering my pictures and data at a very reasonable price!
