Introduction to Timber Framing Course

I had the opportunity to attend the Introduction to timber framing course offered George, (assisted by Anthony) of Manitoulin Timber Frames a few weeks go. Students ranged from craftsmen to complete newbies. Our task; to construct a timber frame sawhorse using mortise and tenon joints. What a great experience.

George provided some basic history of timber framing, tools used, along suggestions for preferred woods used in the process of constructing a timber frame structure. Mainly, it was hands on.

Examples of each task in the building process were presented clearly. He allowed students to work out problem areas, offering suggestions, and answering questions as required. No question seemed to be too trivial.

George is passionate for his trade, and his willingness to share his obvious vast experience was much appreciated. I’m certain that his wealth of timber framing knowledge has been touched barely. I can’t wait to attend another workshop when available.

George and his team crafted a beautiful custom dining table from Manitoulin cedar, dried for two years and finished with four coats of polyurethane. It ties our old country kitchen and dining area into an open, cohesive space.

They put great care into accessibility, customizing each end to different heights for my manual and power chairs, making it functional and comfortable.

Their attention to detail and professionalism were exceptional. Highly recommend. Five stars.

Manitoulin Timber Frames (MTF) provided excellent service, they installed new windows in our Sunroom. Our windows were way overdue for some new ones, as we were losing heat as they were so out of date. We reached out to MTF to get a quote, owner George provided quick and prompt response to set up a meeting to determine our needs and wants for our Windows. With his knowledge and skills, we moved forward with hiring him and his team.

We had just moved to the Island and our new place was crying for a gazebo covering in the backyard where stood an amazing fireplace. We reached out to George he clearly communicated what the process would look like start to finish. We were in.
He arrived exactly when he said he would, took photos and measurements. We were then supplied with a accurate design including photos which allowed us to visualize the gazebo completed. Costs and timelines were established.
George's professionalism was over the top, he was in constant communication letting us know what was happening.

Highly recommend Manitoulin Timber frames - we contacted George online and he responded very promptly to arrange a meeting and discuss our project. We commissioned Manitoulin Timber Frames to design and install a timber frame covered entry porch on our new house in Lively. We wanted a "statement" entry on the front of our house to give it some pizzazz!
We found MTF on line and after looking at the testimonials and pictures, I gave them a call. George was very polite, knowledgeable and helpful on our first call and I had a gut feeling this company wouldn't let me down. George continued to be courteous and accommodating with all my many questions and tweaks of the design. He is very quick to return email or phone texts, and once a schedule was established, he stuck to it and as luck would have it, exceeded the time frame in which he delivered to our site. I like that about a company. As well as being a professional business man, he and his team (met Anthony and Evan on site) are Timber Artists! They arrived at the site totally prepared. It was quite an education watching them work, as they were very precise and very attentive to detail. The finished project was just what we envisioned and i am a very happy customer!
