Our home was insured with Onlia and we decided to search for an upgrade following an incident that showed us how poor a company they are. Onlia is a cheap online based insurance company that has virtually no customer service. We discovered this when our credit card was defrauded and our credit card company cancelled the card. A payment didn’t go through as scheduled with Onlia as a result and the company and Onlia was very sticky about reinstating our policy even though the credit card issue was out of our hands. While this was taking place, we reached out to McDougall. We decided it may be best to go with a local company. We were transparent with McDougall about our experience with Onlia and they suggested we get the policy reinstated with Onlia if we could…which we did.
8 months later we decided we are going to shop for alternate insurance providers. McDougall was sticking to an administrative stance saying “you had a gap in your insurance” even though we had the issue resolved with Onlia. We feel they did not properly represent us in shopping for policies.
Affordability aside, I’ve had insurance claims in the past and I’ve learned you want a broker that is going to stand by you and represent you well. Although they could have, McDougall did not prove to be that company.
So we’ve found someone who will.
