The Dryden Safeway is the best grocery store in town. It’s been the best for years because they have the freshest produce and best meats.
The staff are amazing, always friendly and smiling. They try to hire people from diverse backgrounds and also strive to hire First Nations individuals. The management team are professional and work with leadership from Eagle Lake for the Pow Wow every year. They also help out the native friendship centre whenever they can.
The store is one of the coldest in town and I think that really helps the produce and everything else in the store to stay fresher. When you shop there you will need a sweatshirt lol 😆. Produce from the other groceries in town lasts about a week in the fridge, sometimes less. Produce from Safeway in Dryden lasts two three weeks and longer the odd time.
They have killer steaks! Angus silver and aged wonderfully. You won’t find better meat anywhere in Dryden. The only better meat is fresh from one of the local farmers or butcher shops. Mmmmmmmm Steak!

I recently had an upsetting experience at this store. I have an illness that affects my colon and, as such, need to constantly have access to a bathroom. I became ill at Safeways and went to use their public bathroom. However, the door was locked and a sign said that I had to acquire the key from customer service. Frustrating, but whatever.

I waited up at customer service for TWENTY MINUTES. That might not sound like a big deal, but I was in intense pain. Multiple workers asked me what I needed, but none offered to help me. One worker looked behind customer service quickly and coldly told me that someone must be using the bathroom, as the key wasn’t there.

By the time a different worker offered me help, I was doubled over at customer service in pain and trying not to cry. As it so turns out, the key was RIGHT BEHIND CUSTOMER SERVICE IN PLAIN VIEW.

I understand why they would lock the bathroom, as I know that vagrants have frequented it in the past for salacious purposes. But I wasn’t an addict, I was a customer that was clearly in pain and needed help.

I had presumed that Safeways was an accommodating store, as I know that they do sensory-friendly hours and attempt to cater to a more diverse crowd. But punishing disabled people, let alone the whole community, because of a few bad people is both unfair and incredibly demeaning. Even if they had a combination lock, it would still protect the bathroom while removing the need for a key.

I will probably not be back.

Hey Lawrence, how about instead of telling your cashier to call another cashier, you stop what you're doing and come open another register. The fact is you only ever have 1 or 2 tills open and there's always big lineups.

Also, quot giving dirty looks. You're not the tough guy you think you are. Haven't chased a person out of the store in a while, hub meathead? Corporate must have said something.

And Ryan, what's your issue? You're so stuck up!

If only that bathroom (the one WAY IN THE BACK, down the hall, back by the electrical panels) was open. The the store would be a solid 4. The math between kg to lbs to Canadian dollars to U.S. made my brain hurt. And yes.... Dryden has expensive food prices. But great people!!!

The amount of dust and dirt on counters and surfaces is nasty. The soup station was ridiculously dirty. Empty shelves filled with garbage, staff were efficient at check out but not pleasant, this isn't the Safeway I remember growing up in Thunder Bay.

Great quality flowers to make bouquets, but their groceries are far more expensive then other stores in town.
