I have an extremely unpleasant experience with this company. My mother, who has a disability and struggles to transport herself, has been relying on this company to take her to and from places for the past few months. She took a cab to my house to visit me and when it was time for her to go home, Star taxi did not answer the phone. We called over ten times, and there were a couple of times where they would just outright hang up on us. The other cab company in town was not taking calls either, but at least they werenât answering the phone only to hang it up.
When we finally got a hold of someone, we were told it would be a 45 minute wait. I understand this happens â it was around 9pm so I imagine there werenât many drivers on. We waited for 40 minutes inside, and then for an additional 25 outside. My mother was ill and could barely stand outside in the cold as we waited. After about 10 minutes, we tried calling only to be hung up on again. Finally, a driver answered the phone and it was impossible to hear him. At this point I was very irritated, but I was still sympathetic as I assumed they must be having some technical issues. I kept repeating that I couldnât hear him and asked when my motherâs cab would arrive as she had been waiting over an hour. The driver responded âItâs going to be a while,â and promptly hung up.
I donât leave reviews on companies often. I am not a petty person. I am however extremely disappointed in Star Taxiâs conduct and how they treated my mother. Many of the drivers know her and know that she has mental and physical issues. One cab company didnât answer, and the other one kept responding with hung up calls and distorted static. If there was a technical issue, I understand, but there needs to be a better way to communicate with customers. Does Star Taxi have a callback system? Was there any way to convey to us that they were having technical issues? Were they even having technical issues or just ignoring us?
My partner and I ended up having to walk my mother home, at night, in the dark, in winter. She was not dressed appropriately for the weather because she expected to have a safe ride home with Star Taxi. She did not.
This is not the first issue Iâve had with this company â there have been the occasional rude drivers, poor communication, cabs arriving very late or not arriving at all, and what occurred with my mother finally prompted me to say something. Something needs to change.
