👍 Avis de The Lakeview - Store and Campground

The Lakeview - Store and Campground - Gray Creek, British Columbia

My fiancé and I had a great experience overall, but there is a couple things that I would like to kindly point out.

The campground itself is lovely, nice beach and views of the lake, very kind people, and almost scary quiet for being right next to the road! Generally all of the facilities were very clean.

However, the bathrooms should be inspected/cleaned daily (one of the women’s bathroom stalls had a dirty toilet that was not touched for at least a couple of days to my knowledge, and the second bathroom stall doesn’t have a lock on the door which it should). I believe it is the owner we dealt with, but she may want to review a few things including her people skills. We were interrupted while enjoying our afternoon at our campsite when she came to clean up the garbage in our fire pit. She was a bit socially awkward and I’m glad she’s keeping the grounds clean but this is really something that would be more appropriate to do AFTER guests leave, not while they’re quite literally sitting right there (or at least ask/offer to do so if guests are present, so it comes across a bit more polite instead of intrusive/disrupted). She also ran into my fiancĂ© while he was waiting for me to finish using the facilities and asked that we make sure to lock the door
I asked him if she meant to locked the door now when we were done, or to remember to lock it at night time, and he said he was unsure and a bit confused by the interaction himself. It was around 6pm/7pm, so I was not going to lock it as it wasn’t even dark out/night time yet. One of the mornings we went to use the facilities (around 10am) the door was still locked, and there were several other guests lined up and waiting for someone from the store to open the door for them as they also forgot their key/assumed the facilities would be freely open at 10am. Perhaps you should specify to guests times to lock the facilities by (ex: inform guests to lock the door behind them between the hours of 10pm-8am, etc.) as well as make sure store staff checks that the door is open in the morning for situations like this, and so on (considering we were originally told at check in that the door is unlocked most of the time even though we needed our key about 50% of the time). Your website should also be updated, as the prices online say $40 a night for a full service tenting campsite with no pets or extra vehicles and only 2 adult guests, yet we were charged $45 a night (not including tax).

Hopefully these are some things that can be taken into consideration in the future, would like to come back eventually!

The owner and staff have helped sponsor the historic Gray Creek Regatta for the past 15 years and have been wonderful to deal with. Sailors gather every long Sept. weekend to enjoy the spectacular sailing and views.

We arrived to a beautiful lakeside camping spot beside a rushing creek. It was very peaceful sleeping beside the water. There were few mosquitoes and we had access to swimming and canoeing every day which was great for the kids!. The staff were very friendly and accommodating to us. An oasis tucked into the East side of Kootenay lake definitely worth traveling to from afar. We will be back again!

The owner is rude and condescending. Promised wifi. Dail up speed only at the store and no cell service. Nice view but the owner ruins the experience with her massive list of rules. No one likes her. She has a bad reputation throughout the Kootenays.

Super friendly young girl that worked there. Lots of essentials in the little store if you forgot something. Local newspapers and guides and a little liquor store too! Great service and selection

Quiet and cozy, fine wine and cheese at their store and the best lake in the west.
