Disappointed and Left in the Cold—Literally.”

I visited the Uber Greenlight Hub in Scarborough today to resolve an issue with my Uber Eats account, and the experience was beyond frustrating. The weather was brutal—cold, windy, and uncomfortable, yet dozens of drivers and delivery partners like me were made to wait outside in a long line, hoping to be seen.

When I finally entered, I expected some level of urgency from a company that profits off the hard work of its gig workers. Instead, I found only two support staff working at a row of mostly empty desks—with desks 16 and 17 completely unstaffed. Why are there so many empty stations when the demand for help is clearly high?

We, the drivers and delivery people, are the backbone of Uber’s operations, and yet when we need timely support, we are met with neglect and under-resourcing. It felt like Uber forgot the human side of this business—the people who keep it running.

To Uber: if you truly value your partners, staff your Greenlight Hubs properly, especially during peak hours and harsh weather. No one should have to suffer in the cold just to get basic help.

very very disappointing experience with the front desk employees. we had a simple issue to be resolved , we came in person 3 times , we talked with agents more than 50 times . But still problem hasn’t been solved till today . there is no point of making people wait for 2-3 hrs on the line just go back with nothing but unsolved issues. Never coming backkk

Absolutely terrible - deleted and canceled membership. Drivers don't listen leave it wherever they want and customer service is a joke. Use door dash or skip way better. I literally had to do a dispute with PayPal because I wasn't getting anywhere with the foreign CS that they probably pay pennies.

Six Years Driving with Uber – Here’s the Harsh Truth:

I’ve been driving with Uber for nearly six years. In the early days, things weren’t too bad. But over the past two years, the company has steadily transformed into something that I can only describe as exploitative and unjust.

Here’s just a portion of what drivers are facing:
1. Unfair Fare Distribution: When a rider pays $21, drivers are sometimes paid only $9. Uber justifies this with convoluted calculations that mask what’s essentially legalized wage theft.
2. No More Incentives: For over a year, bonuses and surge pricing—once a motivation—have practically disappeared, even during busy hours.
3. Ineffective Support: About 90% of Uber’s support agents are based in low-income countries. Most lack proper English communication skills and have no knowledge or tools to actually resolve issues.
4. No Phone Support: They’ve eliminated phone support. You’re forced to chat online with agents who often cut the conversation off rudely when they don’t know the answer—no goodbye, no resolution.
5. Automated System Injustice: If Uber miscalculates your fare (e.g., paying $4 instead of $12), the system refuses to fix it. Their weak AI system says, “Case closed,” and blocks any further attempt to revisit the issue.
6. Cleaning Fees Denied: If a drunk passenger vomits in your car, you lose a day of work and pay up to $250 for professional cleaning. Uber used to reimburse this—now, often they don’t.

And the list goes on

Let’s talk real numbers:

Uber might send a driver on a 100 km trip and pay them $60. That looks like decent pay until you realize:
‱ The driver has to return another 100 km empty, meaning it’s effectively 200 km for $60.
‱ That’s $30 per 100 km.
‱ Fuel alone costs $14 (at 10L per 100km and $1.40/L in Canada).
‱ After gas, only $16 is left.
‱ Then there are additional costs: oil changes, tire swaps, depreciation, insurance, car payments, mobile data, repairs, etc.

In the end, the average real income per hour is likely less than $2. That’s not an exaggeration—I have documents to prove it.

Why does this continue?
‱ Governments often turn a blind eye, possibly due to financial or political interests aligned with Uber’s corporate power.
‱ Drivers themselves—especially newcomers from countries like Iran, Turkey, India, or Pakistan—begin working for Uber within months of arrival in Canada, unaware of how destructive this model is.

They drive 10–12 hours a day, put tens of thousands of kilometers on their cars annually, pay taxes, and cover every imaginable cost, only to end up with broken credit scores, repossessed vehicles, and shattered dreams.

The Real Consequences:

Within a few years:
1. Some drivers wise up and quit early on.
2. Some leave after accidents.
3. Some intentionally total their vehicles in minor crashes just to escape their car loans and Uber’s trap.
4. The rest continue, afraid to quit, speaking little English, and unable to find other jobs—until they lose their cars, their credit, or both.

My message to drivers:

Stop. Don’t waste your life. Don’t work yourself into the ground for a company that does not value you. You deserve better. Stand up for your dignity and find work that respects your time, health, and humanity.

Is this really a job? Constant stress, fear of getting deactivated, getting insulted by rude passengers, risking traffic tickets and hidden speed cameras—only to make $5.48 per trip and then get fined $140 for one minor traffic infraction?

Uber may have started with good intentions. But today, it has become the most ruthless face of modern capitalism.

If Uber—or anyone else—needs proof of any of these claims, I am ready to provide documentation.

I visited this Uber Greenlight a few weeks ago and had a very disappointing experience. The wait times were extremely long—over three hours just for a walk-in appointment. The waiting area was small and overcrowded, with security staff constantly forcing drivers to move around to make more space, leaving no personal space for anyone.

Inside, there were only three or four employees working. Two were dedicated to appointments, and the other was for walk-ins, but the wait was still unreasonable. The environment felt disorganized and chaotic.

One employee, a Persian-speaking gentleman, was especially rude and disrespectful to drivers. He lacked basic courtesy and seemed to have no understanding of how to speak politely or professionally. Many of the drivers there were highly skilled and educated, but the staff’s dismissive attitude was completely unprofessional, especially when dealing with drivers who might not speak English fluently.

To make matters worse, the staff took frequent breaks every 15 to 30 minutes, showing no urgency or care for the waiting drivers. They often chatted amongst themselves and wasted time instead of helping people.

Overall, the service at this location is extremely poor and unprofessional. The lack of respect and support for drivers was shocking. I would not recommend visiting this center unless absolutely necessary.

Disappointing experience đŸ€Ż
Every request was met with a “NO.” Ten people ahead of me none got their issues resolved. Staff just apologize and send you away. As someone who’s worked in support, this is unacceptable. Uber and others need better oversight. If the help desk can’t help, why even have one? First time leaving a 1-star review, but this was truly frustrating.
