These guys offered decent, cheap, and slow internet. All good for my needs. But when it came time to cancel my account it became a huge hassle to do so. It was repeatedly promised on various phone calls that my service would be terminated, but it was not. It took over 6 phone calls and 4 days to get something done that I would expect to take 5 minutes to maybe a few hours. It left such a bad taste in my mouth that I felt compelled to leave a review.

Don't waste your time. Their internet is extremely slow and so overpriced, service is poor too. I complained several times for the over a year that I had no reception in certain rooms in my hours (and my house is very small). They sent me a new modem. Recently the connection (or rather lack thereof) got so bad, I decided to quit them. They asked to mail the modem back at my cost. Every company I've been with before covers the cost of returning their equipment. Univserve REFUSED TO! Don't waste your time and money! Awful experience! They don't deserve even one star!
EDIT: As you can see, all they can do is respond to a bad review with their standard copy and paste reply. Uniserve, why are you asking me to waste more of my time to call you to allow you *opportunity to make things right* with me? You had that opportunity when I called you in the first place and asked to have the cost of shipping the modem back covered as it is NOT my fault your internet service sucks. What a BS!

I have had websites hosted by uniserve for over 20 years, and for much of that time they have been fine, if a bit slow at alerting customers about changes. We only learn that they've moved the server, changed something that blocks uploads, etc, when it no longer works and we call them up. They don't seem aware that it might be best to let customers know that their connection has changed.

This spring things seem to have deteriorated to a remarkable extent. Uploads on a site no longer work; a call to tech support reveals that they have simply disabled the main way to change website content and didn't tell anyone - standard operating procedure so far. But tech support is simply unable to say how to correct the difficulty - as in, they state that they are not permitted to do so. Multiple exchanges follow, too many to name.

I can only conclude from this bizarre turn of events that one of two situations exist. 1) Uniserve has decided to get out of the web hosting biz and is using an attrition strategy to accomplish this. 2) Tech staff are disenchanted with the company and are deliberately sabotaging it. There may be other explanations, but I honestly can't think of them. If my site returns to functionality I will update or delete this unpleasant review. Suffice to say that I cannot recommend the firm at this point, and am examining alternatives.

UPDATE: The situation described above did not, in fact, resolve. In their reply the company states that "A notice was sent out prior to ensure customers were aware." No such notice was received by me - nor have I received notices about any of the changes that have affected the usability of the service over the years. Ultimately I decided that it was time to leave Uniserve and shift the websites over to an online-based design-and-host model which has been vastly easier to work with. We have now shut down all Uniserve services on the account and cannot recommend the company as a web hosting firm. If you are considering this company, I would suggest taking a look at current and historical stock prices (USS.V on TSX), and drawing your conclusions about the likely longevity of this supplier.

Horrible service!!! We have been down for over 2 1/2 days and their response is very lackadaisical. We have been on hold for service this morning for over an hour. We own a business and are getting frustrated customers, and staff.
Come on Uniserve. Do better!!!!!!

If you are looking for a fair, reliable, reasonably priced ISP, keep looking.

Uniserve used to be great — I’ve been with them since the mid-90s and even recommended them to friends. If I had problems, customer service was available pretty much any time I called and they were patient and helpful. That was the old Uniserve, which no longer exists.

Now, for starters, don’t have problems on weekends or evenings, because there won’t be any help, which is why I am venting here instead of talking to the nonexistent tech support. I couldn’t even leave a message.

Secondly, after numerous rate increases, my connection has gotten steadily worse. I am now paying for a service they don’t really provide and that makes the things I need my internet to do for me undoable. My connection speed is currently nearly half of what they are charging me for.

Furthermore, they have been overcharging me for god knows how many years — I looked up my plan on their website and its regular price is listed at roughly 80% of what I am paying.

I’ve been putting off switching to a different provider because switching is inconvenient. But it’s not as inconvenient as overpaying for substandard service. I’m done.

Don't waste your money. You can get better service at a better price elsewhere. I made a complaint about getting kicked off my internet every night. Every Night. They said there was nothing they could do. I had to just live with it. I did. For over a year. I missed a bill and they called. I questioned why I even stay with them...
They then gave me a new box. Finally. No credits to make up for the year and a half of terrible service. And then called to harass me for $6.40. I had misread my bill. Seriously. You can do better than them.

Woke up Thursday to flaky internet connection, called for tech support and found out my modem was ancient and they'd be sending me a new one. Very next day had my new modem delivered and I set it up on Saturday. Had to call to trouble shoot the modem set up, got through quickly to tech service and soon had the issue resolved and everything is now back to the robust trouble free fast connection I get with Uniserve. This is why I've been with them since 2001. Thank you so much!
